On the night that we got the chicks the heat bulb blew out. I'm sure that you can see how this is not ideal. We ran over to pets at home and bought a replacement the very next day and they seem happy enough. The dog is very interested in them. I don't think she will hurt them, she is a very gentle dog. She even helped me round one up that had made a run for it when I was cleaning them out. 
Yes, it was the pretty yellow one.
