If it doesn't start raining a bit less...

I'm going to have to start gardening wearing swimming arm bands and carrying all of my plants around on swim discs. :/

Friday 24 June 2016

I've done the first lot of decent gardening in three weeks.

I can't mow the bit at the side yet because that bit of lawn is full of primulas but hopefully by July 1st I'll be able to mow them all down.

Its a pretty decent little nature area to be honest. Lots of bees, moths and beetles.

The grass got torn up because it was too long to be mown really, and still wet from the constant rain. Now that it's short again it has dried very fast.

I strimmed the edges and I've done more weeding in the raised beds.

I've weeded the garlic, peas/lettuce and the parsnip bed now. Just three more left to do and I'll sow some carrots and beetroot in the other two empty beds. I would like to point out that those beds weren't meant to be empty. I'd sown beetroot and carrots in them earlier but they either didn't germinate, the slugs had them or the cat constantly using them as a toilet, killed them. Gardening can sometimes be very frustrating.

We finally got a bit of sunshine today. :)

I'm not sure if this is a snap dragon or not but its pretty.

My peas and lettuce have just gone nuts with all of the rain.

Chicken cleaning

Well, yesterday I cleaned out the chickens house for the first time in a month... No I haven't been incredibly lapse in cleaning them out. My other half has cleaned them out for the last three weeks and its been lovely not having to do it. I forgot how badly chicken houses smell after a week of not being cleaned. I did add clean bedding to the top of their bedding about three days before I cleaned them so they weren't living in their own shit. Even though they are stupid enough to poo in their own beds. I also gave them their herbal wormer yesterday too.

As it rained for nearly two weeks straight I've been concentrating on cleaning the house, and it has never been as clean since we first moved in. I even scrubbed all the dog hair off the stairs. Well, the sun has finally come out and so I'll be getting into the garden today... Wouldn't it be nice if I had someone to help me with all of this work... Like a boyfriend for example...

Off to Gardeners World today! :)

I'm pretty darn excited. Need to prep all the animals before I can go though.
I better get busy.

Swans standing their ground.

Two hour walk and swan attack.

I had to put the fan on before they would settle down.

We had to go COMPLETELY out of our way to pick up poo bags from the petshop before we could go to the canal.

It took us an hour to finally get to the canal. We were very happy to finally get there.

Oh look at the beautiful scenery, and the beautiful swans. :p

I don't know if you guessed but we didn't get past the swans. We tried. They ran at us so we gave up and turned back, having been on the canal an entire ten minutes.

Plum tree.

We did see some of the less aggressive wildlife too.

We got completely lost getting back home. I started to worry that I would never see home again.
As you can see by the fact that I am reunited with my laptop, that we did eventually get home.

Rain!

At least I got the dogs walked before the rain got really bad.

Babysitting chickens.

Babysitting continued.

The fencing was donated to us by our next door neighbors who used to keep ducks. Its a bit low so we'll have to use a bit of chicken wire over the top, but its certainly doing its job so far.

Trouble says can she eat them please? Surely we won't miss one chicken. I think we would Trouble.

As you can see the chickens have plenty to be getting on with. It should take them a week to sort all of this green stuff out.
I'm glad to see that they're not wasting any time getting started.

Babysitting.

Looking after the other halfs mums youngest chickens. They are sooooo cute.
Its more than a bit of a temporary fix. The fence is just propped up against giant plant pots and things, but the chickens should be happy in their little run. Its full of grass and weeds in there. Hopefully they'll clear the space for me.

Trying to catch up. Updated.

I need to clean my house, sort out the garden and sort out the allotment after not having time to do it before now. I have to do all of these things and yet all I want to do is sit on my arse, watch Nero Wolfe mysteries and enjoy my new slippers.

I think I'm suffering from a case of having too much to do, no help, no motivation and a very strong need to do something/go somewhere where I could actually have some fun. In the very least I will poo pick and mow the lawn today. I WILL do it.

UPDATE: I have done it! I have a poop free, mown and strimmed lawn. I also freshened up the chickens food and water. And watered the greenhouse. I Don't think I've done too badly. I've also gone on a 90 minute dog walk.
