Life.

Well the two youngest chicks both died the other day. I'm not totally sure what did it as they both died within a 20 minute period but from what I've read it looks like gape worm.

I'm sad about their deaths. They were lovely little guys. I'm doing my best to focus on the other chickens though. The biggest babies, are now almost 7 and a half weeks old and are outside now and living with yellow, one of our big chickens. The other two chickens attacked them but yellow is quite good with them. We'll start to integrate the other chickens gradually.

I bought an apple tree yesterday to plant in the garden. Its a cox's orange pipping (I think) and was a bargain at £7. Today I bought four strawberry plants as well. If only it would stop raining, I'd be able to go outside and plant them.

One out of three.

One of my eggs hatched yesterday. Unfortunately only one of them did hatch, so we ended up going on a rescue mission to find our lonely little chick a friend.
We travelled to Hens4pets where the lovely lady that owns the place let us have one of her chicks to keep ours company. We now have one Silver Campine, and one New Hampshire red.

So that they didn't feel left out my big chickens had a lovely morning dust bathing before being given a couple of handfuls of meal worms.

And I even managed to find time to pot on some globe artichokes and to plant a new clematis called The President.

Baking.

I think this is one of the best loaves I've made in a while.

And these cookies are good. Coffee and chocolate chip. Very nice. I made more than I could fit in the jar. Oh well, three cookies won't last long. :D
